Archi as the basis for framework comparison
Dunstan Brown and Peter Sells. 2016. Archi as the basis for framework comparison. In Bond, O., Corbett, G., Chumakina, M. & Brown, D. (eds.) Archi: Complexities of agreement in cross-theoretical perspective, 233-260. Oxford University Press, Oxford.
We compare different syntactic analyses of the same complex case and agreement data found in Archi, a language spoken in Daghestan. Through the isolation of four specific properties of bi-absolutive agreement in Archi, we compare how different frameworks account for and group the properties: in Head-Driven Phrase Structure Grammar, Lexical-Functional Grammar, and the Minimalist Program. We show how the different frameworks make different predictions – which should be investigated in future research.
