James Chantry

Associate Lecturer in English Language Teacher Training

Profile

Biography

I have worked in the field of English Language Teaching since 1992, both in the private language school sector (including International House, San Sebastian, Spain and The British Council, Budapest, Hungary) and for HE institutions (The University of Economic Sciences, Budapest, Hungary and Leeds Metropolitan University before coming to the University of York in 2007).

I have worked as a Director of Studies in London (Milner School, Wimbledon) and as the ELT Course Co-ordinator at Leeds Metropolitan University).

Having gained a Diploma and Masters from King’s College, London studying under Prof Jennifer Jenkins, I have a particular interest in English as an International Language and its implications on pronunciation features to be taught in the English language classroom.

At York, I have worked on and led a range of pre-sessional and in-sessional English for Academic Purposes programmes, but my main focus for the last five years has been within teacher training. I have led English as a Medium of Instruction programmes (at the University of Zaragoza, Spain) and now lead the Trinity College, London accredited Cert TESOL course and have also worked on the Cambridge TXT and CELTA courses.
