Friday 31 March 2023, 9.30AM
Speaker(s): Steve Hutchinson from Hutchinson Training & Development
On Friday 31st March 2023, as part of the Early Career Forum in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science, we will host the workshop 'Everything, Everywhere and All at Once? Exploring Professional Balance', led by Steve Hutchinson from Hutchinson Training & Development.
The session is primarily aimed at anyone who identifies as ‘Early Career’, but it is open to all PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, lecturers and any other interested colleagues from the department.
Steve has a strong track record of delivering high quality interactive workshops for teachers and researchers in University settings. This workshop will focus on the need to juggle various demands and the struggle this can cause for students and staff alike, especially junior academics who might feel particular pressure to say “yes” to everything! We’ll explore issues of efficiency, effectiveness and prioritisation, as well as career planning and developing confidence in decision making.
The workshop will take place in the morning, followed by lunch and an optional writing session in the afternoon. The schedule for the day is as follows:
Everything, Everywhere and All at Once? Exploring Professional Balance
From 9am - Tea/coffee
9.30-10am - Perspective from two members of Linguistics staff in the department
10-12am - Interactive session led by Steve Hutchinson
