We received 95% for Q15, ‘how easy was it to contact teaching staff when you needed to?’ and 100% for Q16, ‘how well have teaching staff supported your learning?’

We placed 3rd for Iberian studies in the Russell Group among universities included for Iberian studies in the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS), with a score of 98%.

We received 96% for Q15, ‘how easy was it to contact teaching staff when you needed to?’ and 100% for Q16, ‘how well have teaching staff supported your learning?’

Linguistics

We placed 2nd for linguistics in the Russell Group among universities included for linguistics in the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS), with a score of 95%.

We received 96% for Q15, ‘how easy was it to contact teaching staff when you needed to?’ and 95% for Q16, ‘how well have teaching staff supported your learning?’

Professor Monika S. Schmid, Head of the Department of Language and Linguistic Science, said, “The Department has once again received very positive evaluations from our students. I am very pleased that the cohort who studied with us through such difficult times, and had to receive part of their education online due to the pandemic, felt well looked after and supported, which is evident from the particularly high scores we have received in the Academic Support category for both Linguistics and our Languages.”

What is the National Student Survey?

The NSS is a nationwide survey of final-year students in higher and further education. They answer questions on a variety of aspects of their university experience, including their department and course.

Almost 2,800 York students responded to the 2024 survey, helping prospective applicants to compare courses and make informed decisions about where to study. The survey empowers those taking part to shape the future of their course, giving universities honest feedback on what they are doing well and where they can improve.
