The Department of Language and Linguistic Science at York ranks highly in the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2025

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science has ranked highly in the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2025. It placed 5th for the subject of Linguistics, 10th for French and 9th for Iberian Languages. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

Head of Department, Monika Schmid, said: “The Department of Language and Linguistic Science has again been rated as one of the best places to study these subjects in the UK. This is a testimony to the excellence and dedication of the teaching we provide and the research we conduct. I am proud to be working in this place, and grateful to all my lovely colleagues for their consistent effort.”.

The Times and Sunday Times University Guide is published annually to help students choose a university course. It ranks UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects in metrics such as student satisfaction, continuation, spend per student and graduate outcomes.
