This week the Department confirmed its place among the world's most highly regarded departments for the subject of Linguistics. The Department is ranked 10th in the UK and 91st in the world in the QS rankings.
Published annually since 2011, the QS World University rankings by subject highlight the world’s top universities in a range of popular subject areas. In 2022, QS ranked 1,543 institutions in total across 51 subjects in 5 subject areas. Universities are scored according to academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact (number of citations per year).
In total, nine subjects at the University were ranked in the world top 100: Archaeology (18th), Education (71st), English Language and Literature (28th), History (top 100), Linguistics (91st), Philosophy (top 100), Psychology (77th), Social Policy and Administration (29th), and Sociology (83rd).
Within the UK, four subjects are in the top 10 - Archaeology (5th), English Language and Literature (8th), Linguistics (10th), and Social Policy and Administration (6th).
