New Department Community Coordinator

UG student appointed as new LLS DCC to help to foster a learning community and promote exciting opportunities and events

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is delighted to announce the appointment of Sophie Mills (2nd year UG student, French and Linguistics) as our new Department Community Coordinator (DCC).

The DCC role is a central university project launched in the spring term 2021. It aims to increase communication between the wider university, departments, staff and students and to bolster the learning community by:

Encouraging engagement in community networks
Organising and promoting events within the department
Supporting current student communities in the department and helping build new ones
Advertising other university services

Sophie will be working with our Department in the Autumn Term to improve our channels of communication, support our learning community and develop new student-centred initiatives. In her role, Sophie will also be collaborating with other societies and individuals across the university with the aim to organise never before seen university-wide events.

“This year is probably the first year without any Covid restrictions, so a sense of normalcy is beginning to return to a lot of people’s lives, and so a lot of students are looking for events to attend, myself included. I’ve always been passionate about my degree and by extension the department, so I think it’s only fitting that I take up a role in which I can help this department’s community really thrive. There are some amazing people working here: from staff to department reps and societies, who work hard to develop this community and I am really happy to be a part of it. Events planning is already underway so keep your eye out for emails or posts about activities coming up!
