In September 2020 the Department of Language and Linguistic Science launched the student-centred blogging site Language Students Abroad (Uni of York).
Currently, students enrolled in one of the LLS Language Degree programmes have the opportunity to complete a placement abroad choosing between study placements in partner universities (in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Mexico, Chile or Italy), becoming a British Council language assistant in schools, or work experiences / internships in a French-, German-, Spanish- or Italian-speaking country.
Created and developed by the Year Abroad Coordinator Dr Elia Lorena López (Dept. Language and Linguistic Science), the ‘Language Students Abroad’ blog aims to provide students with a digital platform where they can share with peers their experience abroad as well as useful tips on how to get ready to start the Year Abroad placement.
The blog is ‘run by students for students’ and is led by a team of Student Editors, officially selected by the department and under the supervision of the Year Abroad Coordinator.
“We have created this website for language students who are looking to go abroad, are currently abroad or are just looking to share and compare their experiences. This is a welcoming place to ask questions and connect with people all over the world!” - LLS ‘Language Students Abroad’ Student Editors Team
“We are thrilled that students have a platform to share their experiences about the year abroad, to inspire their peers and any other students who are considering going abroad as part of their studies. Our ‘Team of Student Editors’ communicate with their peers, revise and publish their stories. We are also proud that we are helping students to build professional skills and enhance their employability opportunities.” - Dr Elia Lorena López, Dept. Language and Linguistic Science
