The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is delighted to announce the appointment of Leah Scott (UG student, Spanish and Italian) as our Department Community Coordinator (DDC).
Encouraging engagement in community networksThe DCC role is a new, central university project launched in the spring term 2021. It aims to increase communication between the wider university, departments, staff and students and to bolster the learning community by:
Leah will be working with our Department to improve our channels of communication, support our learning community and develop new student-centered initiatives. In her role, Leah will also be collaborating with other DCC across the university with the aim to organise never before seen university-wide events.
This new role is also supported by wider university networks such as:
This is what Leah has to say about her new appointment:
Studying and working remotely the past year has been an unbelievable challenge for everyone. For me, missing out on the departmental buzz was a hard change to deal with- going out for coffee after a lecture, parties, cinema nights and meals out. Online events have shown an incredible resilience from both staff and students, creating a space where we can get together. However, though no one’s fault, Zoom fatigue has hit even the most avid partygoers. I’m working with the department, our amazing student reps and Linguistics Society to organise, support and promote innovative new events to increase engagement in our community networks. I’m hoping to bring a dynamic new approach to tackling the difficulties of being a remote community, while building the foundations for future events and communication within our department. Hopefully in the summer term we will be able to host some outdoor activities, but in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for exciting updates and events still to come!“ - Leah Scott, Department of Language and Linguistic Science
PG and UG Students in the department are invited to join the LLS discord server for the very first event of the term, the ‘Spring Bloom Competition’. Send your best spring photos to the channel and vote for your favorite!
