Dom Watt gave an invited lecture called 'Fake it till you make it: Accent and dialect imitation in the fields of entertainment, business, and forensic science' as part of the University of Vechta's 'International Week'.
In his talk he explored three areas in which accent/dialect imitation is relevant: dialect coaching in the film, TV and theatre industries; dialect reduction (elocution); and in forensic speech science, a field in which cases of voice disguise using accent imitation for criminal purposes arise from time to time.
Dom and some of the other participants in the event are pictured here on an excursion to the Goldenstedter Moor nature reserve, a few miles outside the town.
