York guest speaker Andrew Jack given on-screen role in JJ Abrams blockbuster

If you were at Andrew Jack's talk about his work as a dialect coach around this time last year, you might recognise him in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', in which as well as being behind-the-scenes dialect coach to Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and other members of the cast, he also has a speaking part. Andrew was extremely helpful in the preparation of the chapter on applied dialectology by Dom Watt that will soon appear in the new 'Handbook of Dialectology' (editors Charles Boberg, John Nerbonne and Dom Watt), to be published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2016. The chapter covers dialect coaching, dialect reduction and forensic phonetics, the common theme of which is accent imitation.
