This course aims to increase students’ awareness of the problems and opportunities facing French-speaking countries. This module will use a wide variety of primary and secondary materials to explore the nature and diversity of countries and regions in the world where French plays a significant role.

This is a year-long module. You will have 16 hours of lectures and 18 hours of seminars. The pattern of teaching is as follows:
The medium of instruction is French. There will be a weekly lecture to introduce the context and key facts related to a particular aspect of the theme. This will be followed by 1 hour seminar devoted to the analysis of selected extracts of written and audio-visual materials in French through varying activities.
Bibliographical references will be supplied during the course. Consultation of French daily newspapers and weekly magazines is essential for the students to keep up to date with current issues in the Francophone world.
