Our 60-second interview with Rose:

Could you please tell us what work you do in the field of mental health?

I currently teach nursing and have recently published a Clinical Pocket Reference on acute mental health nursing. During my NHS career I worked in clinical and operational roles in acute working age services and forensic settings.

What do you find most rewarding and inspiring in this work?

The power of human connection and resilience in the face of adversity and challenge.

What is the most challenging or complicated aspect of this work?

In a world that often values measurable outcomes it is essential that we value and respect people’s lived experience and help this voice to be heard.

What impact do you hope your work is having - or can potentially have?

Through my teaching and scholarship, I hope to promote better care for people experiencing mental health distress and to support the professional identity and development of mental health nurses.

Could you share with us one piece of advice that you follow for your own mental health?

Try to value yourself as much as you value others.
