Our 60 seconds interview with Daniella:
Could you please tell us what work you do in the field of mental health?
I support students with the administrative aspect of starting, continuing and completing their university journey. As part of my role, I ensure students are aware of the support available to them to ensure their wellbeing and help flag any concerns to the support services withing campus. Furthermore, I provide a safe space for students to share any concerns they have while they are studying with us and provide the appropriate support.
What do you find most rewarding and inspiring in this work?
Being able to provide support to students, that then allows them to thrive and be their best selves while they are at university is very fulfilling.
What is the most challenging or complicated aspect of this work?
Individuals in the mental health field are currently pressed for time, we have many individuals willing and in need of mental health support, but sometimes the professional personnel are limited by no fault of their own, in providing sufficient support to everyone.
What impact do you hope your work is having - or can potentially have?
I hope it assures all potential students that they do have a lot to offer the world and themselves, and, should they choose to pursue higher education, that the environment we have created will support every aspect of their lives, and is designed to ensure they succeed and have a quality life changing experience.
Could you share with us one piece of advice that you follow for your own mental health?
Intentionally create time for yourself daily, even if its 15 mins and do something you enjoy and that allows you to be present.
