Dear colleagues, 

Following a briefing with Senior Leaders earlier this week, we’ve received feedback that there is some confusion about reporting participation in the current period of industrial action. Below is a reminder of the process and deadlines.

Reporting participation in strike action

If you are taking part in the UCU strike action you must remember to report participation through the online notification form

Please notify us no later than your first day back at work after you participate in single or consecutive strike days. You can report multiple times throughout the course of the discontinuous period of strike action in February and March. 

Salary deductions

The University will withhold a day's pay (1/365th of salary) for each day you participate in strike action. 

The strike action falls across three separate payroll cycles. Please note that deductions will not be shared evenly between the three payroll cycles. For each of the pay cycles there is a reporting deadline, we will use the participation data at that deadline to inform payroll deductions for that month (see below). Deductions can only be made for dates where the strike action has taken place before the reporting deadline. 

February deductions

  • Deadline to report your participation: 5pm on Monday 13 February
  • Strike days covered: 1,9 and 10 February

March deductions

  • Deadline to report your participation: 5pm on Friday 10 March
  • Strike days covered: 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28 of February. 1 and 2 March.

April deductions

  • Deadline to report your participation: 5pm on Monday 10 April
  • Strike days covered: 16, 17, 20, 21, 22 March  

Final deadline for all notifications is 5pm on Monday 10 April. 

Therefore if you are taking part in all of the 18 strike days, and notify us on or before the February, March and April deadlines, you will see deductions in February, March and April's pay. If you wait to report the dates of your participation until the final April notification deadline, the deductions will all be taken from April's pay.
