The IGDC is looking to appoint two new Lecturers in Development Politics.

The new appointments will be based in the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC). The IGDC offers interdisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes in global development and undertakes interdisciplinary research to promote global justice.

The new appointment will undertake research of the highest international standards in their field, contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching, including the cross-departmental BA in Global Development, and make a major positive contribution to the research standing and culture of the Department and of the IGDC. We are looking for outstanding candidates with a proven track record of research and teaching in the area of politics/political economy of development. We are particularly interested in appointing candidates with a geographical focus on the African continent and/or China or who combine expertise in global development with a specialism in one of the following areas: climate change, health, or migration.

These posts provide an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant and growing department; one of the largest Politics departments in the UK. The person appointed to this position will play a full part in course design, teaching, research supervision, and administration in the Department. The post is available from 1 September 2022 and is on an open contract.

Role

  • To contribute to the Department’s and the IGDC’s research and teaching profile in the areas of development
  • To develop research, projects and proposals and carry out individual and collaborative research projects
  • To lead on and contribute to the production of excellent research outputs and research outcomes.
  • To design, develop and deliver high-quality teaching, including interdisciplinary teaching using problem-based learning methodologies and team teaching within the area of global development.
  • To undertake effectively and proactively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities   

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • PhD in the field of development politics
  • Proven ability to contribute to high-quality research which is publicly evidenced
  • Experience in taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and ideally at postgraduate level
  • Evidence of successful course planning, design and delivery across a range of modules, with exemplification of teaching materials
  • Evidence of dissemination of research findings which may include:  the presentation of papers at conferences and workshops; participation in public engagement events to disseminate research; the publishing of chapters in text books; the publishing of papers; articles or reviews in academic journals or elsewhere; the construction of websites
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students
