The IGDC is seeking to appoint a part-time Communications Specialist to join the team.

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Global Development (IGDC), led by the Department of Politics in conjunction with the Departments of Environment and Geography, and History, is seeking to appoint a part-time Communications Specialist to join the team.  The person appointed will support communications of IGDC’s activities and engagement with internal and external partners (academic and stakeholder).

Role

You will be a key contact for academic and research staff engaging with IGDC, delivering a high-quality administrative service to support them in communicating their work to a wide audience. You will support marketing activity relating to IGDC, ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the development of external partnerships. You will co-ordinate the production of a range of IGDC promotional media in a range of printed and electronic materials and maintain IGDC’s digital presence, including website, blog, e-newsletters and social media content for external and internal audiences.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification or experience
  • Knowledge of a full range of marketing practices and promotional activities, including social networking tools, and use of those practices within a complex organisation
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and Google suite
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently using own initiative, taking ownership and responsibility
  • Experience running social media campaigns and writing for diverse audiences
  • Experience planning and managing events
