The COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference, hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, will take place from 31 October to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow, UK.
As the climate crisis intensifies the COP (short for 'Conference of the Parties', i.e. a global climate summit) has particular significance for the Global South. In this session, eminent engaged scholars from the Global South who are also involved in the COP and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) process will present their perspectives on what COP means for future research agendas and research priorities.
The event is co-hosted by the Research Champions and the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC).
The panel includes four international participants:
- Debra Roberts, Co-Chair of Working Group II of IPCC
- Saleemul Haq, Director of the International Centre for Climate and Development, Bangladesh
- Aromar Revi, Director of Indian Institute for Human Settlements & Co-Chair UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network
- Youba Sakoni, Vice Chair of IPCC
- Prof Lindsay Stringer (Environment and Geography) will act as a discussant, with Richard Friend (Research Champion for Risk, Evidence and Decision-making) acting as facilitator.
