Research development

Support is provided by our Research Development Manager, Craig Robertson (craig.m.robertson@york.ac.uk) and can be tailored to individual needs so if you’d like support with something that doesn’t fit into the suggested areas below, please just get in touch to see how he might be able to help.

What sort of help is available?

Craig mostly provides support for projects and research areas identified by departments and the faculty as significant and/or strategically important. He’s also available to provide additional help in the areas below where applications are large (likely >£500,000) and/or complex, for example where they involve multiple partners or substantial match funding or capital expenditure. Any projects that involve refurbishment of space or other infrastructure requirements (eg IT), or which require submission through a tendering system (excluding Horizon Europe) should also be discussed with Craig, as well as those for which economic development is the primary purpose or which include support for a cohort of PhD students (eg Doctoral Focal Awards).

• Developing ideas and exploring funding options, including sharing funder intelligence and insights from across the University
• Connecting researchers at York with colleagues in other disciplines and with non-academic partners and convening workshops and networking events
• Tailoring and developing the grant application text, especially the Case for Support and Work Packages sections and reviewing draft proposals
• Project managing large and complex grant bids, including coordinating correspondence and activities with external partners during grant development
• Revising and redeveloping unsuccessful proposals (excluding fellowships - for support in revising unsuccessful fellowship proposals, please contact the Fellowships Team)
