  • Social Media Research: A Guide to Ethics by Dr Leanne Townsend and Professor Claire Wallace, University of Aberdeen
  • Environmental Sustainability and Why it's an Ethical Matter
    • In a world facing the consequences of climate change it is essential for researchers to reflect on the impact of their work on the environment. Ethical principles are about not doing harm, as a result, we also have a responsibility to do no harm to the environment and to do as much as we can to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, waste and other environmental damage through our research. As a result, we ask students and members of staff to have environmental sustainability at the heart of their research design, reducing travel as much as possible and reducing the use of printed paper copies as much as they can.
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Why it's an Ethical Matter
    • Ethics processes are more than just a compliance exercise, they are an opportunity to think about our responsibilities as researchers. That responsibility includes working on fair representations of cultures that showcase respect and where necessary and possible engage with representatives from those cultures to avoid imposing frameworks on others, valuing local forms of knowledge and helping to avoid the portrayal and perpetuation of stereotypes.
