Soil Science and the Politics of Expertise in the 20th Century.
Supervisor: Sabine Clarke and Calvin Dytham
My research focuses on agricultural developments in Britain and its colonies in the 20th century. I explore the role of indigenous knowledge in developments in agricultural science and ecological thinking. Also, how these areas were shaped by differing visions for science, empire and development. I explore, for example, the work conducted at agricultural experiment stations in the Caribbean and Africa.
