Research team wins funding for Becket 2020
A research team from the Department of History has been awarded nearly £100k in funding linked to the ‘Pilgrimage and England’s Cathedrals’ project.
Dr Dee Dyas and the Christianity and Culture team have recently been awarded nearly £100,000 by the Arts & Humanities Research Council in relation to their ‘Pilgrimage and England’s Cathedrals’ project. The team will be working with Canterbury Cathedral and The British Museum over the next two years to deliver resources, exhibitions and cultural events for the 2020 Becket anniversary.
2020 will mark 850 years since the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket, and the team aims to use the Becket story and the anniversary celebrations to drive a transformation in heritage, tourism, education and community engagement.
The team will also be working with Canterbury City Council, Canterbury Museums and Galleries, The Museum of London, Canterbury Business Improvement District, The Marlowe Theatre, The Diocese of Canterbury, and The Eastbridge Pilgrim Hospital as part of the anniversary preparations.
