Sarah Hartley awarded fellowship to work at the WHO Regional Office for Europe
CGHH is delighted to announce that Sarah Hartley (a PhD student based at the Centre) has been awarded a six month Wellcome Trust Secondment Fellowship to work with the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen. Sarah's success is built on a strong record in research. Her keenness to apply historical skills and learn new approaches to bettering health will be developed through this exceptional opportunity to work within international policy.
During her time at the Regional Office Sarah will help to develop an evidence checklist for policy-making, and assist in providing guidance to decision-makers in the process of systematically and transparently accessing and using research evidence in health policy-making. This will feed into the Evidence-informed Policy Network (EVIPNet) Europe’s work, which focuses on increasing country capacity in evidence-informed policy-making.
Sarah’s success builds on strong, existing links between CGHH, the Department of History at York and the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Since 2013, CGHH has been an active WHO Collaborating Centre, and has worked with the Regional Office to deliver successive series of Global Health Histories Seminars.
The Secondment Fellowships are awarded, on a competitive basis, to humanities and social science researchers already funded by the Trust to enable them to work at non-academic organisations to develop their skill set.
We would like to offer our congratulations to Sarah on this fantastic achievement, and look forward to hearing more about her work at the Regional Office over the coming months.
