Express your interest in the Future Leaders Fellowships

The History Department is now inviting expressions of interest for UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships scheme. This scheme aims to grow the strong supply of talented individuals needed to ensure that UK research and innovation continues to be world class. It will provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, but who have a proven record of research.

The expectation is that Fellows should undertake a significant piece of publishable work during their tenure. The support offered will be long-term and flexible, providing a comprehensive package, including the Fellow's salary and justified research, staff and training costs. Seven years of support is available, employing a four year + three year model, with an external review in year four. Upon cessation of the Fellowship and subject to performance, the University will offer Fellows an open-ended independent research position.

We will support candidates, who can demonstrate a track record of excellent research, evidenced through such things as doctoral funding and/or publications in top journals. 

The department particularly welcomes proposals in the following areas: big data, digital history/humanities, and sound.

The deadline to submit an Expression of Interest for this scheme is 5pm Monday 21 May and should include:

• CV (4 pages max): including your name and current institution, the date of submission of your doctorate or date of your doctoral viva.
• A summary of your proposed project (max. 2,000 words).  
• One paragraph why you see the Department of History at York as a good fit for your planned project (max. 500 words).
• One paragraph underlining why you consider yourself to be an outstanding candidate for this scheme.
• One writing sample (article or chapter, published or unpublished).

Candidates are strongly advised to liaise with appropriate members of academic staff between now and 21 May to discuss informally their project and the structure of their application.
