Dr Monica Saavedra, a Wellcome Trust-funded Research Fellow in the Centre for Global Health Histories (CGHH), has been interviewed for Rádio e Televisão de Portugal's 'Hora dos Portugueses' programme on a recent recent research visit to Goa, India.

Monica outlined her work on the history of healthcare in Goa from 1920 to 1987 which forms part of the Wellcome Trust-funded Local Bases of Global Health research project that is based at the CGHH. She defined her work and discussed the different sources used for the period of Portuguese sovereignty and after Goa’s integration into India in 1961. She said “These are mainly health bulletins and reports; I also use newspapers in order to get information on non-medical perceptions of the health issues and the functioning of the healthcare system." Monica also mentioned the importance of interviewing people who have worked for the health services in Goa; "the aim is to have an inside view of how planning and regulations actually worked on the field”.
