Double grant success

Dr. Henrice Altink has been awarded an AHRC/GCRF network grant on risk and resilience in the coastal Caribbean. The network will bring together arts and humanities scholars working on the Caribbean with environmental, physical and social scientists studying environmental risk and resilience and external partners, including the Overseas Development Institute and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, to develop innovative cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral approaches to the study of environmental risk and resilience in the Circum-Caribbean.

Dr. Alexander Medcalf (Deputy Director, Centre for Global Health Histories) was part of a successful bid made to the recent AHRC-MRC/GCRF Global Public Health Partnership call.The AIR (Air Pollution Interdisciplinary Research) Network will develop an interdisciplinary research partnership of African and European researchers and African community members, with the long-term aim of creating innovative, participatory solutions to air pollution and its effects on human health in low-resource settings in Sub-Saharan Africa. It will use a mixture of methods drawn from our different disciplines (which include theatre, medical anthropology, environmental health, music, storytelling) to better understand the local context and explore the concerns and challenges faced by residents in relation to air pollution. Alex will chiefly be involved in the strand exploring community attitudes to air quality through visual representation.
