The Daniel Pinfold MA Dissertation Prize

In memory of their son, Daniel, John and Judith Pinfold will award a prize of £200 each year for the dissertation with the highest mark on either of the following programmes:

• The MA in Modern History
• The MA in Contemporary History and International Politics

The prize will be allocated (based on merit) by the Department in November and will be bestowed at the reception for the Graduation Ceremony in January. The first time the prize will be awarded will be at the January 2018 ceremony to a student in the 2016/7 cohort.

Daniel Pinfold graduated from the University of York in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics. He then joined the Department of History, completing the MA in Contemporary History and International Politics before he died in September 2015. This was a great loss to the University; Daniel was a very intelligent student with an enquiring mind who liked to discuss concepts and ideas both in relation to his course and more widely. His dissertation focussed on British politics, in particular, the Labour Party, but he also had a particular interest in the history and politics of Hungary as his maternal family comes from that part of Europe.

The Department of History is very grateful to John and Judith Pinfold for the award, which will run over 6 years and will benefit both current and future students studying in academic years 2016-17 through to 2021-22.
