Accommodation
York is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Uk, so it is worth booking your accommodation early. Even in 'low' season, there are major events, such as the York Races and Festivals, that attract many people.

Some of the CCC research team are staying at the Ibis Hotel on the Mount. It is close to the station, and would be about a 15 minute walk to the King's Manor. Its rate are very reasonable for a tourist destination.
The list below offers suggestions of hotels and B&Bs within easy walking distance of the King's Manor which is on the north edge of the walled city of York, vaguely in order from most expensive to least expensive.

- The Groves, 15 St Peters Grove (friendly, near King's Manor on a side street from Bootham)

- Lamb and Lion Inn, Bootham Bar (very close to King's Manor). A popular place to stay for visiting seminar speakers - a pub well frequented by King's Manor students and staff.
- Bar Convent Bed and Breakfast (historic site at western edge of walled city, c. 15 minutes' walk from King's Manor, only a few rooms en suite, but very nice and less expensive than most, from £33 single per night)
- Alhambra Court Hotel, 31 St Mary's, Bootham. Again, very close to King's Manor. Unpretentious and friendly. Again, frequently used for visiting research seminar speakers.
- York Youth Hostel, 42 Water End (very nice location near the river, 15 minute walk to King's Manor)
- Ace Hotel (formerly Backpackers Hostel, in heart of the city on Micklegate, but more likely to be noisy than the Youth Hostel)
The King's Manor is situated in the centre of York, not on the main University of York campus at Heslington. However, there are frequent bus services from the campus to the rail station at York, which is near the King's Manor. The University of York can offer accommodation at competitive prices, both during the vacations and term times.

From London the journey time is under two hours; Edinburgh is only two and a half hours from York and there are direct services from Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and the South West.
The Station is about 12 minutes walk from the King's Manor, alternatively you will be able to pick up a taxi from there.

The closest airports to York are Leeds Bradford Airport (the closest, but not the easiest to travel to York, as there is no direct train service), and Manchester Airport, but you may find that other airports will be more convenient for your journey.
