The Grant
Research Group Co-Lead Katie J. T. Herrington (Non-Stipend Affiliated Postdoctoral Researcher, University of York) made a successful bid to the Tate British Art Network to establish British Women Artists, 1750-1950 at the Department of History of Art, University of York in September 2015. Continuation funding has been granted in each subsequent bursary round. Dr Alice Strickland (Curator, The National Trust) joined Dr Herrington as Co-Lead in June 2020. This Research Group, formerly titled a Sub Group, is one of a number concerned with specific topics in British Art that Tate was able to establish thanks to the award of Museum Resilience Funding from the Arts Council of England to continue and expand the work of the Subject Specialist British Art Network in 2015-18. It is now supported by Tate and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, with public funding provided by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. To join please email Katie Herrington and Alice Strickland @britishwomenartists1750-1950@york.ac.uk.
