Launch of major new book

The publication of 'St Stephen's Chapel and the Palace of Westminster', edited by Tim Ayers, J P D Cooper, Elizabeth Hallam Smith and Caroline Shenton, marks the culmination of a major AHRC-funded research project (2013-17), led by scholars in the History and History of Art Departments at the University of York.

Essays by art and architectural historians, political and ecclesiastical historians, and scholars of music and liturgy tell the story of a great lost building in the Palace of Westminster, at the heart of English national life for over 700 years.

In celebration of a long and fruitful partnership between the Houses of Parliament and the University of York, the book was launched on Monday in the Palace of Westminster at an event attended by Sir Chris Bryant, Minister for Creative Industries, Arts and Tourism, and Professor Ken Badcock, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of York. Copies of the book are available from the publisher Boydell & Brewer.
