History of Art's Marcus Milwright and co-editor Evanthia Baboula's book Made for the Eye of One Who Sees, Canadian Contributions to the Study of Islamic Art and Archaeology has been awarded the Inaugural University Art Association of Canada (UAAC-AAUC) book award for best edited collection.

The Joint BIAA-BIPS Conference: Jalal al-Din Rumi and his Legacy: Religion, Literature and Culture between Medieval Anatolia and the Persianate World, 13th-14th Centuries was held on 6th and 7th July 2023 at the British Institute at Ankara (BIAA) in Türkiye. This international conference focused on the Sufi poet Rumi, the reception of his work as well as his religious and political legacy.

Now in its eighth year, and back after several postponements due to COVID, the York Summer Theory Institute in Art History (YSTI) will take place from 5 - 9 June 2023. Welcoming students from both the UK and across the world, YSTI is hosted by the History of Art Department and led by Professor Whitney Davis of University of California at Berkeley and Honorary Visiting Professor of Art History at the University of York; the theme for this year’s summer school is Art History and Picture Theory.
