Monday 12 June 2023, 7.00PM to 8:00 p.m.
Speaker(s): Dr Amanda Hilliam, Sarah Hoyle, Alex Kader, Sophy Wills, Nicholas Howard
In the first of a series of events organized by the Yorkshire Country House Partnership and the University of York, these two important works of art will be brought to the University campus for a special viewing as part of this year’s Festival of Ideas on the theme of Rediscover, Reimagine, Rebuild. Our audience will have a rare opportunity to see Giambologna’s sculptures up close and in the round, while our panel of experts respond to the Hawk and Owl from a variety of specialist perspectives – encompassing art history, ecology, metalwork conservation, and the art market.
Speakers are:
Dr Amanda Hilliam, Associate Lecturer in History of Art at the University of York;
Sarah Hoyle, ecologist and volunteer RSPB ranger based in Yorkshire;
Alex Kader, Senior Director & Co-Worldwide Head of European Sculpture at Sotheby's;
Sophy Wills, Senior Metalwork Conservator, The Royal Collection;
Nicholas Howard from Castle Howard.
The event can be booked via the Festival of Ideas.
This is the first of three One Object, Many Voices events held in June/July 2023: please check the Department's Event page for details of the other two.
