Student complaints

The Department of Health Sciences recognises that there might be times when students wish to raise a complaint about the services we provide.

The complaints process covers many issues but not academic decisions as these are covered by the appeals process. Reasonable, genuine and sincere complaints should be raised as soon as possible.

We value all feedback, good or bad, and aim to learn from any negative comments to help us improve our services.

The Department of Health Sciences' commitment to you. We will:

  1. Handle all complaints sensitively and confidentially
  2. Take all complaints seriously
  3. Treat you with respect at all times
  4. Not treat you differently because you have made a complaint
  5. Be fair to all parties involved
  6. Encourage local resolution in as many cases as possible.

Making an initial 'Informal' complaint within the Department

In the Department of Health Sciences, all informal student complaints should initially be addressed to the following staff members, who will triage the complaint and then investigate appropriately.

If you are dissatisfied with the initial response to your concern or complaint, you should complete the informal complaint form, and a member of the University Complaints Team will contact you. At this point, the University of York Complaints Team will log an "informal" complaint. This is also know as the early resolution stage, or simply stage 1.

If you are worried about making a complaint, you can always contact the University of York Students' Union (YorkSU) Advice and Support. You may also wish to review the University complaints procedure or read the Student Complaints FAQ .
