Workstream 5
A pilot study (SWHSI) to assess whether a larger study, to compare negative pressure wound therapy with dressings to treat open surgical wounds, could be conducted.
This work will follow on from Workstream 4 and will use a pilot randomised controlled trial to assess whether a larger study in the area of negative wound pressure therapy could be completed. This will include testing the data collection methods which could be used in a larger study and assessing other practical issues associated with study design and outcome collection.
We aim to recruit 50 patients who have a surgical wound healing by secondary intention, from the Hull and Leeds areas. Participants will be assigned to one of two groups by chance and will receive either negative wound pressure therapy or usual care (e.g. wound dressings).
We hope that this study will help to inform and lead to a larger trial of negative wound pressure therapy and usual care in the future.
