The CRF's first online training event was held in September on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Health and Care Research, and was delivered by Dr Puvan Tharmanathan and the UPTURN study team.
This was an online interactive 1½ hour session, where trainers facilitated discussions about:
This 2-hour in-person training session was delivered by Dr Julie Bayley CPsychol, Former Director of Research Impact Development & Director, Lincoln Impact Literacy Institute (LILI), University of Lincoln, UK in October 2024. Dr Amy Newman, University of York Research Impact & Knowledge Exchange Training Officer, also talked about impact support at the university.
About the talk:
Impact - the 'provable benefits of research in the real world - is an increasingly significant part of research life, commonly expected by funders and as part of national assessments (eg. REF). However, with so many possible ways to make a difference, it can be difficult for researchers to determine what change is most meaningful and balance impact with the wider pressures of academia. In this interactive session, Dr Julie Bayley outlined the concept of Impact Literacy, and explained how focusing on the why, who, what and how of impact can help us plan and deliver impact for REF, funders and wider society. This session is suitable for any career level.*
