A randomised controlled trial of proactive, personally tailored invitations to attend a taster session with encouragement and active referral to NHS smoking services, compared with standard generic advertising of the service.
The project comprises an RCT in two phases to test the primary hypothesis that smokers proactively recruited by a personal letter, minimally tailored to characteristics available in their medical records, and invited to a taster session to find out more about the NHS services, will be more likely to attend the NHS stop smoking service, and will be more likely to quit smoking, than those who receive a standard generic letter advertising the NHS service.
