Who is involved in this project?

This study is being conducted by a team of researchers from the Department of Health Sciences, Department of Archaeology, and Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. This study is funded by the Environmental Sustainability Academy at York (ESAY).

Dr Peter Coventry co-leads the CraftWell project. Pete is a senior lecturer in health services research with the Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the University of York’s Department of Health Sciences. Pete co-leads the Environment and Health theme at YESI

Aimee Little

Dr Aimée Little co-leads the CraftWell project. Aimée is a senior lecturer in early prehistory, material culture and experimental archaeology in the Department of Archaeology at the University of York. She is director of the York Experimental Archaeological Research (YEAR) centre.

Piran White

Professor Piran White co-leads the CraftWell project. Piran is an ecologist by background and holds a personal Chair in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. He co-leads the Environment and Health theme at YESI

Dr Emily Shoesmith is a Research Fellow with the Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the University of York's Department of Health Sciences. Emily contributes to the ‘Human-Animal Interaction’ and ‘Tobacco and Mental Health’ research themes in MHARG and is a YESI research fellow on the CraftWell project.

Dr Stephanie Piper is an Associate Lecturer in Department of Archaeology at the University of York. Steph is a specialist in the Mesolithic of Northern Europe, with a particular focus on hunter-gatherer mobility, and using lithic raw materials to trace the movement of communities. Steph is a YESI research fellow on the CraftWell project.

Trish Darcy is a Research Associate with the Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York. Trish contributes to the ‘Natural Environments and Mental Health’ and ‘Mental Health and Physical Multimorbidity’ research themes in MHARG.

Andrew Needham

Dr Andrew Needham is a Humanities Research Centre Post-Doctoral fellow at the University of York. Andy is an Associate Lecturer specialising in aspects of Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, and Experimental Archaeology, and assistant director of the YEAR Centre.

Gareth Perry

Dr Gareth Perry is a Technical Specialist in Artefact Studies at the Department of Archaeology at the University of York. Gareth specialises in reconstructing ceramic production practice and works closely with colleagues on the YEAR centre on a range of experimental archaeology projects.
