About the research group
The Epidemiology & Cancer Statistics Group, which is based in the Department of Health Sciences is looking for an enthusiastic researcher to work as part of our multi-disciplinary team. We welcome applicants with research interests in epidemiology and statistics, with particular interest in those working in the cancer field. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on projects embedded within the Haematological Malignancy Research Network's (www.HMRN.org) population-based cohorts.
Funded by Cancer Research UK and Blood Cancer UK, HMRN was established by ECSG and their clinical collaborators in 2004 with the aim of providing accurate population-based research outputs on the occurrence, treatment and survival of patients with haematological cancers.
The role
You will:
- contribute to and/or lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes
- participate actively in the planning and management of research projects, including supervising the work of others and providing expert advice and guidance
- contribute to and/or lead the obtaining of external research funding
- contribute to the public understanding of research and scholarship
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- First degree in a relevant subject (e.g. biology, science, maths, statistics or another quantitative subject) and PhD or equivalent experience (epidemiology or statistics)
- In depth knowledge in epidemiological methods and data analyses, particularly in relation to real-world observational studies
- Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing, using a range of media
- Good working knowledge of statistical methods applied to observational and/or longitudinal data
- Advanced and specialist knowledge of statistical software packages such as Stata and /or R
