There are a wide variety of people and services to support both staff and students out in practice.
The first port-of-call for students within the Department for concerns or questions relating to practice should be the Practice Learning Link Team. The PLL’s work closely with Practice Educators to support students and staff with issues or concerns.
Practice Learning Link Team
The Practice Learning Link Team provides a link between students, the University and staff in Practice to ensure you all have support with any practice related issues, concerns or to debrief on any clinical experiences. You can contact the team on dohs-pll@york.ac.uk We have regular drop-in sessions for students in practice and these will be advertised on the student VLE.
Role of Practice Supervisors (PS's)/Practice Assessors (PA’s)
Within each base placement area students will be assigned both Practice Supervisors and a Practice Assessor.
The Practice Assessor is based within the students base placement area. Their role is to have an overall overview of student progress and oversee the completion of all summative assessments and and proficiencies in Pebblepad. Overall progression decisions should be made using feedback from the Practice Supervisors as well as through summative assessment processes (eg Episode of Care, Professional values).
The role of the Practice Supervisors is to support students in everyday practice and within any spoke experiences, to provide students with feedback on their performance and learning in practice. Students may have 1 or numerous PS’s and they will support the student with a range of learning opportunities in order to meet their formative assessments, learning outcomes and proficiencies.
Role of AA
A student's Academic Assessor is responsible for providing an objective oversight to your programme stage progression. They will meet with you before you start in practice to discuss what you need to achieve and at the end of your placement to ensure you have achieved all of your objectives. They will also get involved if concerns are raised during placement. The Academic Assessor will liaise with their student and the Practice Assessor in order to plan any additional actions that may be required to support students in practice with learning outcomes. AA’s must be involved in the action plan process.
Role of Personal Supervisor
For pastoral support your first line of contact should be your Personal Supervisor. They will be able to point you in the right direction for additional support services via SASS for example or make any appropriate referrals required to support you with your learning and experience at the University.
