Sian is studying the effects of ecological restoration on public health as part of the Health of Populations and Ecosystems (HOPE) project. Her research is interdisciplinary and bridges the natural and social sciences with the aim of integrating evidence from the fields of environmental health and human health. She is supervised by Professor Piran White and Professor Hilary Graham.
Before starting her PhD, Sian studied biology. She focused on ecology and after graduating worked on a salt marsh restoration project, examining the impact of ecological restoration on environmental health.
Sian is interested in the links between environmental health and public health and aspects of the environment such as biodiversity which influence human health.
