Biography

Matthew has worked in the Higher Education Sector for most of his career. After initially studying Social Work, his career moved into the Higher Education sector, working as a Careers Adviser for both the University of Northumbria at Newcastle (UNN) and the University of Newcastle before working as a Senior University Manager in the School of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Teesside responsible for the portfolios of Student Experience, Clinical Placements (Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions), NHS Bursaries and Student Loans and Student Records. Matthew joined the University of York, Department of Health Sciences after working briefly as Medical Education Lead for Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust based in Middlesbrough.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head of Faculty Operations, Matthew provides strategic and operational leadership to a large team of 20+ professional support staff covering five Student Services teams - Applicant and Student Experience, Undergraduate Programmes, Postgraduate Programmes, Apprenticeships and Non-Standard Programmes, Educational Technology and Placements.

Matthew's primary role in the Department is to provide leadership to the department's Student Services Teams and to influence and inform local, regional and national strategy and policy through external professional bodies, PSRB and NHS Organisations. Matthew has extensive professional experience in policy development, particularly in the areas of Practice Placements, Student Conduct, Behaviour and Respect, Support to Study, Regulatory Affairs and the Student Experience.
