Matt initially trained as a geneticist, developed a passion for computational analysis and then combined these interests to move into the area of bioinformatics. Working alongside field experts he has specialised in applying data science to the understanding of b-cell biology.
This has focused on both the analysis of detailed in vitro models of b-cell differentiation and related disease counterparts. Of particular interest is the application to unsupervised clustering approaches to explore disease heterogeneity alongside machine learning methods to classify the predicted patient subgroups.
While Matt is part of ECSG, he is situated within The Data Science Hub where he provides support for haematological based projects and builds and maintains data analysis pipeline infrastructure (Nextflow and nf-core).
