Laura Scott Weatherby
Senior Lecturer in Mental Health

Biography

Laura qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 2005. She has worked extensively across the Yorkshire region, primarily within older adults' community mental health services.

Before transitioning to nurse education, Laura held a strategic role where she was responsible for nursing standards across mental health and learning disability services.

Laura joined the University of York in 2015, where she teaches on pre-registration nursing programmes. Her academic interests focus on improving mental healthcare for older adults and their carers, as well as supporting service users with complex needs.

Beyond her clinical and academic roles, Laura spent eight years as a Fitness to Practise panel member for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, reflecting her strong interest in professional regulation and the maintenance of high standards within the nursing profession.
