Julia Hackett is an Associate Professor and Public Involvement Lead in the Paediatric Palliative Care Research Group (PPCRG), within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York. Julia also conducts research within the Candlelighters Supportive Care Research Centre (CSCRC).
Julia specialises in applying qualitative methods to explore the care and support of children, young people, and young adults living with life-threatening / life-limiting conditions and/or medical complexity, their families and the professionals who support them. She has extensive experience of palliative care, both from an adult and paediatric perspective.
Julia has particular expertise in applying qualitative methods to explore the care and support of children and young people with palliative care needs and at end of life; their families; and the health and social care professionals who support them. Julia’s research interests include families’ experiences of end of life care and bereavement support, particularly how parents are supported immediately following the death of a child and the impact of this on longer-term outcomes.
Julia would be interested in supervising PhDs in the following areas: paediatric palliative care; bereavement; and qualitative methodology.
