Biography
Ian joined the Epidemiology & Cancer Statistics Group (ECSG) in 1994, becoming IT Manager in 1998. In 2022 he became the Senior Infrastructure Engineer for the group. He originally trained in marketing and worked as a marketing manager before gaining an MSc in Computing in 1991.
Ian’s responsibilities include:
- Management of a diverse yet integrated range of physical and virtual systems, including but not limited to file, database & application servers, web servers hosting multiple websites, remote desktop access and all the associated networking and storage infrastructure to provide comprehensive and secure storage of data for the ECSG based at York and at HMDS in Leeds.
- Provision of access to systems including PC desktops, laptops, scanners, networking hardware and other peripherals, as well as the associated operating systems, administrative and specialised software for all users.
- Systems administration for the Health Sciences IT infrastructure in conjunction with the Health Sciences IT Manager.
- Technical support to both ECSG and Department of Health Sciences
