She currently has a dual role as a Children’s Diabetes Nurse Specialist at Leeds and as a lecturer in diabetes at the University of York, co-leading the CYP diabetes module and Insulin pump therapy modules with Anne Phillips.

Carole’s main clinical interests are in intensive diabetes management particularly insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring and psycho-educational interventions. She has been involved in a year-long investigation into the state of diabetes education, learning and support in the UK as part of an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). Its report was submitted to the Department of Health and disseminated among Clinical Commissioning Groups.

She joined the RCN CYP Diabetes community in 2010 and has been actively involved in co-writing “CYP with diabetes – RCN guidance for newly appointed nurse specialists” and the RCN endorsed “Streetwise” information leaflets for young people during transition. More recently Carole contributed to the development of the RCN "Specialist and advanced children and young people's nursing practice in contemporary healthcare: guidance for nurses and commissioners" (2014) and its subsequent development at RCN congress.
