Becky has been shortlisted in two categories, Student Nurse of the Year: Adult and Student Nurse or Midwife of the Year: Clinical Research. The Student Nurse of the Year award aims to recognise an outstanding final-year student and to celebrate the breadth of learning needed to join this branch of the profession – from clinical skills to academic achievement, which underpin the treatment of all patients.

The Student Nurse or Midwife of the Year: Clinical Research award aims to recognise and acknowledge a student nurse or midwife who has shown themselves to be a true advocate for clinical research, for example, by promoting it to their peers through their experience or raising the profile of clinical research placements through positive impacts.

Becky has engaged in numerous activities outside of the programme, including being on the Council of Deans of Health Student Leadership Programme and an RCN student ambassador. Becky led a project on neurodiversity in student nurses as part of the Council of Deans Student Leadership Programme, presenting this work at conferences. She has also been on an NIHR internship in which she worked on a project relating to chronic kidney disease prevalence in severe mental illness and has had a paper published as a result of this.

Becky said: “I was really pleased to have been shortlisted for these two awards as a result of some of the projects I’ve worked on over the last couple of years. I am really appreciative of the support I’ve had to get where I am and I’m looking forward to the ceremony in May to hear about all the other finalists' work and shared success of student nurses across the country.”

Allyson is one of seven shortlisted for the award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs.

The Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs award seeks to recognise a student who has made an exceptional contribution to student affairs during their time at University. Allyson is committed to promoting the holistic development and well-being of students. Her grassroots project the A.M.A.project, aims to ameliorate nursing student attrition leading to positive outcomes for student success and retention. As a multi-scholarship student, Allyson also serves as a fervent OPPA Ambassador (Office of Philanthropic Partnerships Alumni) working closely over the years with OPPA for the continued financial contributions for student scholarships.

Allyson said: “I am so humbled and honoured to have been nominated for this prestigious award and for the opportunity to represent our globally renowned University. I am dedicated to contributing and doing my part in recognising current and emerging issues pertaining to student nurses.”

Head of Department, Professor Kate Flemming said: “We are extremely proud to hear that both Becky and Allyson have been nominated and shortlisted for awards.
