Peter, whose role spans two departments – the Department of Health Sciences and the Hull York Medical School – is an extremely experienced university teacher, having worked in Higher Education since 1993 at the University of Leeds (in the Schools of Psychology, Medicine and Healthcare) and, since 2011 at the University of York and the Hull York Medical School.
Peter's main research interests are in increasing patients' opportunities to make informed decisions about their health and healthcare.
The awards, which are presented at the summer graduation ceremonies, recognise colleagues who demonstrate excellence in teaching and/or learning support at York.
Peter's main teaching activity in HYMS is in Evidence-Based Decision Making, including the critical appraisal of research. The judging panel recognised Peter's reflections on his teaching approach and how he improves it using well-thought-through initiatives. They commended his long-term commitment to ensuring his teaching is excellent and the impact his work has had on academic colleagues and clinical tutors.
He said: "I am delighted to receive this award. I have worked hard since joining HYMS to develop and improve this aspect of the undergraduate course - in particular holding training courses with more than 100 clinical tutors. I'm really pleased to have this work formally recognised by the university."
