Former nurses successfully complete a return to workplace programme

Posted on 16 April 2015

Ten students successfully completed the Department of Health Sciences Return to Practice programme.

The course provides those who wish to return to practice and reactivate registration the opportunity to identify gaps in their knowledge and regain competence in both a simulated and actual practice setting.

Student Tracy Patel said: "I was daunted by the prospect of academic study as I have been out of nursing for 24 years but the support I have received from the university and in practice has been fantastic. I feel very prepared to start work as a staff nurse on the acute medical unit at Harrogate Hospital. The ward is fast paced but I know it will be the perfect place for me to develop my skills further."

Course leader Clare Brooks said: "It’s pleasing to see the students leave the programme qualified to go back in to an ever changing workplace. To see someone who has not studied for a number of years gain the confidence to return to nursing is extremely rewarding."
