Harrogate District Hospital's maternity unit has undergone a major refurbishment this year and was officially opened by Cathy Warwick CBE, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives.
The unit now has a beautiful, purpose buit pool room for water births, as well as a new triage area where women can be assessed before being admitted to the labour ward. Midwifery lecturer Louise Armstrong said: "Staff and women are very pleased with the new environment and many of the mothers who were the first to use the new suite were there with their babies for the opening.
Our first year midwifery students were delighted at the opportunity to look around the unit and talk to some of the new mothers. The new pool room makes water births much likely and this is expected to enhance the learning experience for our student midwives."
